Alex Frost visits CfAI

A few words from a recent CfAI visitor.

“My name is Alex Frost. I’m a PhD student from the University of Western Australia, working in the free-space optics (FSO) field within our university’s Astrophotonics group. Recently, I had the opportunity to do a 6-week research visit to CfAI to meet Durham University’s own FSO group. We worked together to adapt an atmospheric turbulence monitor for deployment within UWA’s optical ground station network, TeraNet.

The trip was fantastic! Our two groups are perfectly complementary. The mix of UWA’s FSO infrastructure and design skills with Durham’s atmospheric simulation and modelling expertise is a potent combination, and has made me so excited about future collaborations.

Durham University is a beautiful place full of friendly and welcoming people, and I am grateful for the time I got to spend there (and hoping to spend more as soon as I can!).”
