The 5th Marketing, Innovation and Digital Transformation (MIDT) Conference, titled 'The Rise of AI: Technology-Driven Changes in Marketing', will take place on 24 June 2026 at the Waterside Building in Durham. The conference is organised by the Centre for Consumers and Sustainable Consumption from Durham University Business School and The Marketing Research Community from Newcastle University Business School.
The 5th Marketing, Innovation and Digital Transformation (MIDT) Conference invites paper submissions that critically examine the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced digital technologies in contemporary marketing theory and practice. As AI systems increasingly shape how organisations understand markets, engage consumers, design services, and make strategic decisions, marketing faces profound shifts not only in tools and techniques, but also in underlying assumptions about agency, value creation, ethics, and wellbeing.
This conference aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for scholars to explore how technology is reconfiguring marketing at individual, organisational, and societal levels. The aim is to draw forward-thinking research on crucial topics affecting consumers, businesses and society. We encourage fresh perspectives and unexplored territories. We invite researchers across disciplines such as marketing, psychology, operations, economics, information systems, computer science, and more to submit abstracts relating to conceptual, empirical, and methodological contributions including (but not limited to) the following themes:
The MIDT Conference has established itself as a vibrant platform for intellectually rigorous and conceptually innovative research at the intersection of marketing, technology, and society. The 5th edition continues this tradition by fostering dialogue across disciplinary boundaries and encouraging work that challenges dominant narratives of technological progress.
We look forward to welcoming you to the 5th Marketing, Innovation and Digital Transformation Conference.
