Examination of royal patronized performance and literary publications during Mary Tudor’s reign in the Department of History |
Biography
My project seeks to evaluate royal patronized performances during the reign of Mary I & Philip II. It will examine both court productions and regional events, in addition to productions by both English and European authors. It hopes to provide a detailed analysis of the cultural methods used by the royal couple & their offices to influence public discourse and promote their authority throughout England. It will ultimately contribute to emerging research of the reign seeking to undermine the enduring prejudice theses which still influence Marian historiography today.
I have a special interest in the Records of Early English Drama (REED) Project across much of my research and welcome any enquiries regarding historical approaches to the volumes.
My supervisors are Dr. Natalie Mears & Prof. Barbara Ravelhofer.
