Australia operates on a different academic calendar to the UK.

Term dates:

• July to November, then February to June

Application deadline. If selected to go on an exchange by Durham, the Global Opportunities Team will nominate you to the partner. After your nomination is confirmed, you will need to apply to the partner to register with them. Full year deadline:

• Application (by student): 1 May

Academic Information

Study load:

Students should enrol in a standard credit load of 50 credit points per semester. For more information, please see Study Load (unimelb.edu.au).

Requirements/Restrictions

To be eligible for a place, you must achieve the minimum of 60% average or higher, or an equivalent.

The following Faculties are not available to Exchange students:

• Melbourne Medical School
• Melbourne Dental School
• Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences

Admission to the following Faculties is limited:

• Faculty of Engineering
• Melbourne Law School
• Faculty of Sciences (in particular Biomedicine)

Language Requirements

The language of instruction at the University of Melbourne is English. If you are a non native English speaker, you may be required to provide evidence of language ability.

It is an Australian Government requirement that all international students must have health insurance, known as Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), from an approved Australian provider. This is compulsory and costs around $437.

Students coming from overseas to study at the University of Melbourne must have a student visa unless they are an Australian or New Zealand citizen. Exchange students apply for the Student Visa (sub-class 500) once the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) has been issued.
