The Department of Mathematical Sciences is housed in a new, state-of-the-art building, purpose-built for research and teaching. Located on the south side of the Science Site, it is just a short walk from Durham’s historic city centre and the iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites of Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle. Durham is well connected by rail, with journey times of under three hours to London, around 1.5 hours to Edinburgh, and just 15 minutes to Newcastle.

The Academic Skills Centre provides Postgraduate Taught students with a wide range of opportunities to strengthen their academic skills: from online resources and drop-ins to taught sessions and one-to-one support. For students who hold an offer for a Durham University degree programme but who have narrowly missed their language condition, Durham’s Centre for Academic Development (DCAD) offers Pre-Sessional Academic English Courses that are designed to help with academic language and literacy skills.
DCAD also has a vast catalogue of over 100 courses covering research tools, communication, creativity, and career development, including preparing for careers in academia or industry and effectively using AI in research.
