We are pleased to invite you to the annual research workshop from the Centre for the Study of the Ancient Mediterranean and Near East (CAMNE). This year's research theme is 'Fragile Networks'.

The recent ‘network turn’ has encouraged scholars to see connection almost everywhere —between places, people, and objects. The Fragile Networks programme aims to examine the significance of the obstacles that hinder network formation, the networks that are ‘broken’ after only a few generations, and the reasons why certain individuals and communities fail to connect with others. Focusing on communities, places and traditions of the ancient world, ranging from the Atlantic to the Levant and beyond, we will look at two intertwined elements: connections and disconnections (broken, weak, fragile) both in the ancient world itself, and in the research communities engaged in its study.
