This June marks a major milestone for the St Mary’s College Boat Club (SMCBC). Here’s how the St Mary’s community is celebrating!

In 2026, St Mary’s College Boat Club (SMCBC) reaches an extraordinary milestone: a full century of College rowing, community spirit and Mary’s pride. As one of the oldest College boat clubs at Durham, SMCBC has shaped generations of students – on and off the water – and continues to inspire outstanding achievements today.

To honour this historic anniversary, we’re delighted to announce a weekend of celebrations during the Durham Regatta on 13–14 June 2026. This special moment brings together alumni, current students, supporters, and friends of the College to reflect on a century of dedication, teamwork and tradition.

Celebrating 100 Years at Durham Regatta

The Durham Regatta has long been a highlight of the rowing calendar and a key part of the student experience at Mary’s. It feels only fitting that our centenary celebration takes place alongside this iconic event. Across the weekend, SMCBC crews will take to the Wear with the same determination and team spirit that have characterised the Club since 1926. Whether you’re returning to Durham after many years or still very much part of College life, we invite you to share in a moment that connects our past, present and future.

Anniversary Drinks Reception

To mark the occasion, we warmly welcome our community to a Fundraising Drinks Reception in Kenworthy Hall of St Mary’s College on Saturday 13 June 2026 at 7:30pm. Kenworthy Hall has hosted countless gatherings in the life of the College, making it the perfect setting to celebrate the people and experiences that define SMCBC. It will be a chance to reconnect with old friends, meet today’s rowers, and reflect on the achievements made possible through a century of Mary’s dedication.

A Legacy Worth Celebrating

For 100 years, St Mary’s College Boat Club has been a place where students discover their strengths, challenge themselves, and form friendships that last long beyond their time at Durham. The Club’s story is one of perseverance, ambition and community – values that remain at the heart of St Mary’s today.

As we look ahead to the next century, we continue to champion the inclusive, supportive and inspiring environment that makes SMCBC such an important part of College life. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating this remarkable milestone and the extraordinary people who have shaped the Club across the decades
