Durham University alumni, supporters and friends are invited to join us for a career networking event in New York on the theme of Geopolitical Risks and the Impact of Artificial Intelligence in the Financial Services sector. We will be joined by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Karen O’Brien. 

This reception will offer an opportunity to build connections with fellow Durham University alumni and colleagues from your Development and Supporter Engagement team.  

Light refreshments will be served. 

We are delighted to confirm our speakers for the evening: Kapil Kirpalani, Aoiffe McGarry and Craig Sweeney.

Kapil Kirpalani is Chief Compliance Officer for the Reinsurance Group of America, Inc. (NYSE: RGA). For the last 20 years he has worked as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer in Asia for Citigroup, HarbourVest, KKR and Sequoia Capital after starting his career in private practice. Kapil is an Advisory Board Member with the Association of Professional Social Compliance Auditors (APSCA) and was a Council member with the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge. He is also a member of Durham University's Campaign Board. Kapil read Law at Durham and graduated from St. Aidan's in 2003. 

 

AoiffeAoiffe McGarry is a Managing Director at Apollo Capital Solutions. She is responsible for syndicate, supporting Apollo's platforms and the growth of the asset-backed and structured debt business. Previously, Aoiffe was a Managing Director and Head of the Global ABS & RMBS syndicate Team at Citi, based in both London and New York. She is a member of the Women's Bond Club board, and Breakthrough NYC, an organization dedicated to supporting talented NY middle school students thru third level education. Aoiffe completed her undergraduate studies at University College Dublin and studied at postgraduate level at Ustinov College, Durham. 

 

Craig SweenyCraig Sweeney is a Managing Director and Head of Global Financial Crimes Compliance Audit at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (JPMC). In this role Craig is responsible for leading JPMC’s Internal Audit coverage of processes and controls over anti-money laundering (AML), countering the financing of terrorism (CFT), and sanctions compliance. Before joining JPMC, Craig worked in corporate finance and investment banking roles at the NatWest Bank Group, Lehman Brothers, Credit Suisse Group and RBC Capital Markets. Craig earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Modern Languages at  Durham University’s Hatfield College and also earned an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Craig is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (ACAMS), and Certified Fiduciary & Investment Risk Specialist (CFIRS). Craig is also a registered securities principal licensed with the U.S. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and is a Chartered Associate of the London Institute of Banking & Finance.
